Here’s one short movie, which I believe is rather remarkable than most feature Nepali movies.
Written and Directed by Navin Awal, 1 Percent is a psychological thriller based on HIV-AIDS. The Short movie walks us through the darker side of the city showing sex workers and their increasing effect on disease Aids. Well, it explores the psychological state of the protagonist to reveal those aids issues. Watch the 1 percent short movie below.
The short movie stars Karun Ojha, Darshana Pant, Samuna KC, Asesh Luitel, and Subash Karki. Here’s the plot outline of the movie.
“2015, illegal and uncontrolled sex-trade is leading to a huge number of HIV infections. Sammy, a decent guy with a decent life is bored while his wife is away. He hesitantly decides to buy sex to kill his boredom. Everything goes well until he realises that his condom has broken. The only thing that scares him more than possibly being infected with HIV is that he might transfer the disease to his wife. Medical science cannot give him the peace of mind quick enough so he takes it upon himself to find out his and his wife’s fate. His hoped journey to HIV-negative takes us through the darker side of the holy city, Kathmandu, Nepal, giving viewers a new perspective on fate and decision.”
New actors have put into their hard work in the movie to make it exceptional. Apart from all work credits to Navin Awal for writing, screenplay and directing; the cinematography from Sushan Prajapati is also worth mentioning.
An Aside – Samuna KC seen in the short movie above is a proficient theatre artist who started her journey from Gurukul in Kathmandu.
She is now trying to get established in the movie industry and has been part of few Nepali movies already. Her latest feature Nepali Movie Dhanda is in theatres and many are appreciating her role. Her upcoming movie includes on of the expected Nepali Movies of 2013- Badhshala. Samuna wants to be established as a glamorous actor in the industry.
