Didn’t find any interesting movie releases this week? It might be worth catching up Rajesh Hamal in theatres! You heard that right – superstar Rajesh Hamal will be seen in theatre village of Kathmandu in the play titled “Court Martial”, directed by Anup Baral and adapted from a play by Indian playwright Swadesh Deepak. The play showcased on Friday for press attendees will open to general audience starting Saturday today at the Theatre Village based in Lazimpat, Kathmandu.

Although Rajesh Hamal has done several stage performances before, this will be his debut theatrical performance. And according to reports Rajesh Hamal has really worked hard undertaking rehearsals for more than a month period.

Hamal who says the theatres always fascinated him visited Aarohan Gurukul quite often to watch plays.

Besides which it isn’t technically my first time on stage…I did a role in a Shakespeare play—Richard III—a long time ago at the Yak & Yeti Hotel, conducted by a group of embassies called HAMS,

added Hamal speaking to the press.

The play is directed by Anup Baral, popular actor and well-known theatre personality in Nepal.

Besides Rajesh Hamal, the play also includes Diya Maskey, Karma, Subash Thapa, Dayahang Rai and BS Rana in main roles. Court martial revolves around gender and caste discrimination within institutions such as the Nepali Army.

Here’s the synopsis of the play.

Court Martial is a gripping, engrossing and powerful play written by Swadesh Deepak. It is the story of a recruit Ram Bahadur who is accused of killing his senior officer and injuring another. Ram Bahadur’s trial brings startling facts into light that questions the norms of society. This Court Martial is presided by a war veteran Col. RupakSingh, accustomed to the brutality of life but who is left completely unarmed and broken during the course of this trial. Ram Bahadur’s trial is not only life. Court Martial presents a combination of legal and poetic justice.
