For what the Nepali Chalchitra board calls first time in history, the board made it possible to organize a national film festival outside the Kathmandu Valley. The film festival which went on successfully for three days in Birendra Nagar of Surkhet had presence of several popular artists from the chalchitra industry and was celebrated with programs of Film Workshops, Film Screenings, Celebrity Programs and Location Scouting among others.
The film festival was inaugurated by Tourism Minister Lokendra Bista and had presence of popular cine artists including Bhuwan K.C., Karishma Manandhar, Raj Ballav Koirala and Rekha Thapa. Other senior film artists like Nir Shah and Bhuwan Chand were also present at the event. The event was also intended to boost the local tourism sector of Surkhet.
As scheduled, the National Film Festival had workshops and public screenings for some movies in the event. Seven Nepali Movies – Suraj Subba’s ‘Sayaad‘, Shiva Regmi’s ‘Phool‘, Nirmal Paudel’s ‘Kishan’, Anil Lamichanne’s ‘Burahan‘, Nir Shah’s ‘Masaan‘ and Ram Saran Pathak’s ‘Thegana‘ were screened in the festival. Apart from screenings, the movie board also provided Movie making trainings to more than 60 participants.
